I consider the sort of text overlays ubiquitously found on Instagram to be a form of fine art. Whether it’s high or low brow, it perfectly captures the times, and the ease in which images are made and spread across the internet. This painting is based on model/actress, Lyena Chan, and one of the best selfies with text I’ve seen. It wasn’t easy writing over the face of a subject I spent hours painting, yet I knew it worked well on social media and would therefore also translate to large canvas. You can also see my first neon green halo/aura, inspired by eastern and western religious iconography. The sacred is everywhere.
