“12 x 36” Acrylic on Canvas with fabric wrap (bottom)
A western girl in shironuri makeup, her bright pink hair balancing out a goth look. The pink is echoed in the obi, tied with a golden knot, the soft pink fabric contrasted by the abrasive burlap beneath it, symbolic of eastern philosophy (yin and yang). The blue makeup underneath her eyes compliments the blue kimono. Like many of the decora girls in the Harajuku district of Tokyo, her aim is to preserve childlike qualities and embody the play and joy of life.
